Discussion session: Increasing the transparency of scholarly communication

Over the last few decades scientific publishing has gone through many changes. It switched from print to electronic publishing, explored different peer review practices (e.g. open and post-publication peer review), and publishing models (e.g. pre-print servers, open access or hybrid models); developed alternative metrics, and recently many journals have endorsed the use of reporting guidelines, and opened their doors to publishing negative results and replication studies.

However there has also been an increase in questionable research practices around the world, and many scientists have in recent surveys expressed doubts about the veracity of studies in their fields and expressed views that science is indeed facing a ‘crisis’.

In other the tackle the changing landscapes, and explore the future of scientific publishing, we would like to engage with you during the conference by discussing the following three topics:

  1. Quality of Peer Review Reports
  2. Prospective publication of study protocols (both interventional and observational studies)
  3. Self-reported limitations of studies

To facilitate idea exchange and allow every opinion to be heard, part the discussion will be facilitated using MeetingSphere software, that will guarantee anonymity and also allow you to reflect on your opinions online after the discussion. So please bring your laptop, tablet or iPad with you.
You will be able to join the discussion using the link:

In hopes that you will join us,
