Open for Business: How Open Business Models Can Drive Open Science Forward

The last decade has seen a proliferation of organisations and companies offering services and tools intended to facilitate open science workflows. As it turns out, a large variety of innovative business models has emerged, each with its own characteristics.There has already been quite some research into how successful initiatives - whether they’re commercial start-ups, independent non-profits, institutional initiatives or hybrid organisations - manage to achieve sustainability despite the fact that their main service or product is freely accessible.During this talk, we set out to investigate what business models offer the most perspective for aspiring service providers to reconcile organisational sustainability with maximum openness.
